Poet • Artist • Traveler
In 2005 my camera was stolen in Mauritius while traveling. With no ability to snap a picture, my sketch pad became my camera. I only made quick 5-10 min. sketches of where I was, or what caught my eye, but a story or memory was captured in every sketch and that made the images all the more precious. After that first experience, world sketches continue to grow as I try to keep a sketch pad with me whenever I travel.
They are no great works of art, they are quick personalized moments gained in places sometimes photography cannot go – and through these sketches I receive ownership over that area, that moment, and create an invitation to meet others along the way.

Before the Lord of the Rings craze, I planned to move to New Zealand my sophomore year in college. Thankfully, my roommate convinced me to finish my education first. To celebrate my 30th birthday, however, I decided to travel to New Zealand and Australia on my own to bring in the new decade. I began the trip with an unplanned layover stop in Fiji where I was able to get out and watch the sunrise over the mountains while dipping my feet into the water... a perfect start to a new time of life. It was quite an adventure!

A girlfriend of mine and I traveled alone to Egypt a year after the 2011 Revolution. We had 30 minutes to run through the Egyptian Museum where photographs are not allowed and only a drive through Tahrir Square during protests. Burned out buildings next to a place of ancient history is an indescribable moment.

My sketches are for travel, but sometimes I find a moment in Los Angeles to grab a scene or two where I live.
